This web site was designed, written and built by Daniel de Torres during the Fall semester of 2000, under the guidance of Professor Henry J. Sage of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). The site plan follows the general structure of Professor Sage's course The American Experience in Vietnam (HIS 277 at NOVA).
I am confident that the wide scope of its content will make this site a very interesting tool for the researcher at any academic level. My only intention was to feature catalogued links to original documents, already available online, relating to the American experience in Vietnam. Much effort has been directed towards ensuring the reliability of the sources consulted, which are listed in the "Links" page.
Besides the sources cited, I have taken abundant guidance from Stanley Karnow's Vietnam: A History, revised and updated edition, published in 1991 by Penguin Books. Karnow's book has been particularly helpful in gathering information about the main players in the conflict, and the chronology of events.
All the biographies, event descriptions, and document summaries contained in this site, unless otherwise noted, have been authored by Daniel de Torres. Those materials may be used freely for educational purposes, provided due credit is given.
The site has been structured in four sections:
Chronology. A quick overview of the major events regarding the American experience in Vietnam, from 1945 to 1975. The chronology provides direct links to some original documents and to pages with more detailed information about key people and events.
Important Names. A list of the people (Vietnamese and American) who left their imprint in the development of the war. Each character has a page with a short description of their role in the conflict and direct links to related documents.
Links. A page with links to all the online sources used to create this site, plus other relevant sites.
