Course Checklist: History 121 and 122: Spring 2008
More and more students are getting into distance learning, an understandable development given our busy lives and traffic problems. Recently, however, it has become apparent that some students do not fully grasp what is required for distance success. This checklist is designed to help you complete this course on time with a good grade.
Keep track of your progress through the course. Note that you have to schedule your own “vacations,” travel, etc.;—no breaks are built into the distance schedule. Extensions on deadlines will be granted only in exceptional circumstances and are limited to two weeks. Check Blackboard messages every Monday and review your assignments page from time to time.
Writing projects do not have to be done in order. In general they are due shortly after each quiz or exam. Be sure to identify your project on your cover page along with your title, etc.
Note that at the end of the course the last exam and your last project are due a week apart, so get a head start. If you let things go until the last minute, you will have problems. Guaranteed.
Summary of requirements: The course is divided into four sections. For each section you are to:
Critical Dates:
February 1: Last Date for tuition Refund and deadline for Blackboard Sign-in.
March 26: Last date to withdraw without grade penalty.
May 12: Course Ends.
Think carefully about continuing with this course. If you will be traveling a great deal (especially without Internet access), or expect unusual work or family demands, be sure you can see your way clear to completing the work on time.
Sage’s rule of time goes like this: At the beginning of the semester there are seven days in a week and 24 hours in a day. Toward the end of the semester you will find that there seem to be only about 5½ days in a week, 21 hours in a day and only about 50 minutes in every hour. Stuff happens. Be prepared.
Good luck. JS
